People with
unwanted or excessive hair will find IPL treatment safe, quick and efficient.
IPL can be used to remove hair on virtually every part of the body except for
eyebrows.
A series of treatments are performed every three weeks for a total of six to
eight sessions, resulting in long lasting removal of excess and unwanted hair.
Depending on the size of the area being treated, treatment time can take from 10 to 30 minutes each session.
FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS:
How does IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) hair
reduction work?
A laser produces a beam
of highly concentrated light and different types of lasers produce different colors
of light. The color of light produced by
a particular laser is one of the keys to its effect on hair follicles. The light
is emitted by the hair reduction laser system is the most effectively absorbed
frequency by hair follicles. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just
long enough to vaporize the pigment, disabling numerous follicles at a time, to
eliminate or significantly impede the hair growth. The laser’s “chilled tip” protects and cools
the upper layers of skin before, during, and after each pulse while directing
the laser energy to the root.
Can all skin colors be treated?
No, the combination of
cooling, laser frequency, pulse durations allow for safe and effective
treatment of most skin types and colors. But because the laser is attracted to pigment,
the more contrast between skin color and hair color, the better the results.
How long does a treatment take?Is it permanent?
Depending on the area,
the treatment can take as little as 15 minutes. It will take a minimum of three treatments and sometimes six or more to get
the desired results.Touch-up sessions are
usually needed in the following months. Some patients with stronger hair growth
patterns may need additional treatments.
Does it hurt?
Most
patients describe the treatment as the “snap” of a rubber band against the
skin. Numbing
agents
are available upon request. Please contact us at least 24 hours before your treatment
time if you would like to use a numbing agent. Most patients are able to
complete their procedure without any topical or oral pain medication.
Should I stop shaving before being
treated?
Yes,
we recommend that you do not shave 48 hours prior to your appointment. DO NOT
pluck, wax or bleach the hair. These
methods alter the hair follicle and leave no pigment for the light to be
attracted to for effective results.
What happens if I have been in the
sun?
The
laser works best if you have not been tanning for at least 14 days. You can be treated with a tan but much less
aggressively.Temporary burning is more
likely to occur.
Are there any side effects?
Depending
on the aggressiveness of the treatment and skin type, a small percentage of patients
may experience mild blistering or burns. Hyper or hypo pigmentation may occur.
This is usually not permanent and should fade over time.Always read your consent forms carefully
prior to treatment.
