What is Thermage?

Thermage is a non-invasive procedure that helps smooth, tighten and contour skin for an overall naturally younger looking appearance.  There is no surgery involved.  The incision-free procedure is fast and easy, and requires no downtime from normal activities.  Unlike lasers, the procedure can be performed on patient of all skin types.

How long has Thermage been available?

The Thermage device was first cleared by the FDA in 2002 and has been available in physician offices since then. Our office has been treating patients since 2007.

How does it work?

The Thermage procedure employs a patented radio frequency technology. Thermage uses a sophisticated hand piece with a smooth, flat treatment tip, which delivers a controlled amount of energy.  With each touch to the skin, the tip uniformly heats a large volume of collagen in the deeper layers of the skin and its underlying tissue while simultaneously protecting the outer layer of the skin with cooling.  The deep uniform heating action causes deep structures in your skin to immediately tighten. Over time, new and remodeled collagen is produced to further tighten skin, resulting in healthier, smoother skin and more youth appearance.

How long does each treatment take?

Depending of the size of the area to be treated, the procedure may take as a little as 20 minutes or up to two hours (for face).

Where are the Thermage treatments performed?

Thermage procedures are performed in the office on places of the face and/or body with loose or lax skin.

What kind of results can I expect?

Your skin can look smoother and more youthful as the tighter underlying collagen offers better support. Results vary depending on age, skin condition, genetics and care of your skin.

How soon will I see results?

Some immediate results are usually visible and improve over time. Measurable tightening and contouring improvements appear gradually over a two to six month time period following a single treatment session.

How long will the results last?

Thermage procedures help stimulate new natural collagen production for up to six months following the treatment.  Results can be long lasting depending upon your skin condition, your genetics and your natural aging process.

How many treatments will I need?

Unlike many laser procedures requiring three or more sessions, a single Thermage treatment produces results in the majority of patients.

What will I look like immediately after the procedure?  Can I go right back to work?

There is no special care needed after treatment and most patients return to their regular activities immediately following treatment.

Does it hurt?

When the energy is applied, you’ll feel a deep but brief, heating sensation, which is an indication that collagen is reaching effective temperatures for tightening. To protect the surface of your skin, a cooling spray is delivered before, during and after each application of energy.  You will be asked for feedback on the level of heat sensation experienced during the procedure to help balance your comfort with maximum results.

Can I get a Face by Thermage procedure instead of a facelift?

Face by Thermage can definitely tighten your skin, but it won’t provide the dramatic results of a surgical facelift.  If you would like modest tightening of your skin without surgery, then Face By Thermage may be right for you.  Our aesthetician would be happy to discuss the different approaches with you during your consultation.

Can I avoid other cosmetic procedures if I do this?

Each procedure has its own benefits.  Thermage is a great non-invasive choice foe skin smoothing, tightening and contouring.  During your consultation, our aesthetician will discuss which procedure(s) is best for you and your desired results.

Can I get a Thermage procedure if I’ve already had other procedures?

Thermage procedures are compatible with most other cosmetic procedures, like soft tissue fillers.  For best results, you will need to discuss your past procedures as well as your current expectations with us during your consultation.

Is it safe?

Thermage procedures have an excellent safety record.  Of course, as with any procedure, there is always some risk.  We can discuss those with you during your consultation.  Side effects are generally mild and may include redness, swelling, blisters, bumps and rare instance of surface irregularities.

How much does it cost?
